Hiking /Travel Tips for Pets from Our Biggest Adventure Enthusiast!!!

I have been on many trails, off road adventures, and camping expeditions.  Please tell your mom and dad to read this page!  It’s really important if any friend of mine is going to head out on a big adventure!!   I  want to share the experience with you as well!!

• Always check the trail/park regulations. And, check  the leash laws.  While we are really cute, we may not be allowed on any trails and only certain parts of the state and national parks.  And, at all times, we have to be kept on our leashes.  It really is for OUR protection. I’ve seen a LOT of wildlife out there and I have a tendency to bark at it and want to attack it.  This may not be one of my better ideas!

• Always pack plenty of food and water for us too!

• Believe it or not, we need sunscreen too, especially if we are short haired or have just had a haircut!

• Please make sure we have our flea and/or tick protection on.
• Please make sure we are up to date on our shots and preventative medicine.
• We need to rest too!  So when we’re out hiking, make sure we have plenty of rest stops and water breaks.
• If we’re traveling to our destination by car, make sure we get plenty of breaks to stretch our legs and take care of our ‘business’ as well.
• Know where the closest vet and/or emergency vet is at our destination.
• Please carry our pet health records with you.  You can contact our vet before you leave and they can give it to you on one easy to read card.
• Please call and/or check ahead for pet friendly lodging.  Some of us may require an extra deposit.  Also make sure that they’ll let us stay in the room without you.  A lot of places don’t.  Please check the rules/regulations before you book the trip.  It’s not my fault I bark and miss you when you’re gone……

*These are just some of the things I have thought of while out on the trail.  It may not cover everything.  Please tell your mom and dad to use common sense when planning a trip with us.  While they may want to take us, sometimes it’s a better environment for us if we stay home.   We’ll wag our tails, kiss your faces, and let you know how much we’ve missed you while you were gone!
